Exclamation Archer VR900 v2 NO STATS !!!! Whole VR Range missing Line Statistics in GUI ?

I have just purchased a VR900 DSL router and fitted it to a TalkTalk 80/20 VDSL line , I am very pleased with the performance compared to my std TalkTalk HG633 Huawei unit ,
the link speed is 79999/19999 and I get a good 450Mbps linked to my Laptop's Intel 6300N wireless card on both 2.4 and 5 Ghz.

    Speedtest.net tests give 20ms PINGS and 75 down and 18 up .

However I cannot find ANY stats for the VDSL line , where are the stats for SHOWTIME / FASTPATH / INTERLEAVED or anything like FEC or CRC errors , even the Huawei HG633
that TalkTalk supply shows this , I used to have a Billion 8800 AXL which is another VDSL router and this had a huge list of line stats .

So where are these stats on a VR900 , as its running a Broadcom chipset they are available , have TP Link blocked these from being shown ?

It seems crazy if they have , how are we supposed to tell if our BT line has any issues or any way for us to diagnose line issues , as we know BT and ISP's never admit a line fault
unless you can produce some of these !!

The main reason I went looking is the extremely limited stats say I have " Packet Errors " on my upstream ( 114 errors in 2 days ) and I wanted to see why or what errors there are , I also wanted to see if the DLM was allowing FASTPATH with this router or if it had reverted to an INTERLEAVED line , but for some reason I can't find anything ?

I just spoke to TalkTalk tech and they asked me about errors which my old TalkTalk std router/modem a Huawei HG633 showed , but I have nothing to give them !!

Will TP Link be doing a firmware update for the VR900 v2 anytime soon ?

And if so is there any way for me to ask if these stats can be added to the Advanced / Status page ?

it seems that TP-LINK don't make those info display on the router management page. But we can feedback to TP-LINK support and tell them what we want so they will take it seriously.

    Thumbs up

I have been doing some geeking on this since my post and I can see lots of VR router users saying the same thing on many of the different forums, why on earth has TP Link decided to not show ANYTHING is it a simple oversite on their part or are they actively blocking us seeing the line stats ?

Almost all other older TP Link Modem / Router models that I have looked at show a good selection of the "Line Stats "so why is the VR900 and other VR's missing them all ?

I have been having issues with my VDSL line the last few weeks and it has been a nightmare trying to get TalkTalk to even agree there may be a fault , one minute they say line tests have passed with glowing colours the next I am told I have had 6 retrains in the last 2 days , when the router has been left on ( No reboots ) but I am in the dark as I cannot see ANY line stats !!

I cannot even see if I am on FASTPATH or INTERLEAVED , TP Link please we need these stats to argue our cases with the ISP's !!
without these we are at their mercy and have to hope they might help , this situation only exaggerates the ISP's argument that we should use their modems and not 3rd party ones !

I simply cannot believe that my 200 near top of the range VR router shows me nothing where my cheap as chips Huawei HG633 from TalkTalk shows me loads !!

How can I contact technical support , do you have an email address , that would get me through to someone that cares , as emailing straight into normal support will only get me a box full of return emails asking stupid questions and not a technical response which is what I would really like , or is there somewhere we can contact that will assess whether this can be added to future firmware ?

    Hi vieldcs,

Thanks for the reply , I found that link after posting above , but it seems broken , after filling in all the info the page allows you to go to the NEXT page and input Name / Email , as soon as I do this and hit SEND it says FAILED TO SEND , thought it may be the email address I used so tried 3 others ALL do the same so I can only assume it is broken .

I have sent emails to countless different Support addresses and finally got a response from one of them yesterday , so here's hoping !

I will report back here if I find out anything of any use from TP Link.

    UPDATE

I emailed TP Link regards the problems on the support-contact site and now it seems to be fixed.

    Hi all ,

Did eventually get a good reply from TP Link , from UK support ( Thanks vieldcs )

I have explained the missing "Line Stats " issues and asked for a Tech Engineer to get back to me ,
they have passed it to a senior engineer to peruse the problem ,

so I am now awaiting a decent technical response from TP Link.

I also pointed them to this forum link.

Lets hope TP Link are as good as they used to be .

    Cool

I asked a few questions but here is part extract from my email :

Thanks so much for the reply and could you also pass this to the developer for hopefully an addition to the next firmware update .

May I confirm with you my wish list for the firmware :

Add to ADVANCED / STATUS PAGE the following

HEC / FEC / CRC errors.
    FASTPATH or INTERLEAVE connection.
    Interleave Depth up/down.
    VDSL uptime / System uptime.

    also

In advanced / network /DHCP : MAC and IP address are specified but no PC NAME ( could name be added to listing of fixed DHCP clients )

Got this in my email reply :

Many thanks for your valuable reply.

We have feedback your suggestions to the development team and the developer ,
and they will evaluate will add or not, thanks again for your suggestion.

And you current firmware is not the latest you can upgrade to the latest one.

So its sit back and wait on this one , unfortunately , but hey at least I got some acknowledgement .

Another way to find some extra DSL stats is to use TELNET or find " StatPOSTer-20150824.jar " this is a java interface that's only 23.7kb

a quick google search will find it on the kitz forum http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php?topic=14377.45

Simply double click the .jar file and it will do it for you showing the stats in a GUI format ( remove "admin" and leave blank just use password on interface for statposter )

and check the IP address is correct then click "Get stats "

To get Telnet working on Win 7 follow this ( using Statposter may need you to enable Telnet Client )

Make sure Telnet Client is ENABLED in Win 7 , use " Windows Features " in search box,
when it opens scroll down list and put a tick in " Telnet Client " box .

    Open command prompt as admin.
Type : telnet 192.168.0.1 ( or 192.168.1.1 if you haven't changed from std IP )

Fill password box with router admin password and hit enter.

Type : adsl show info or adsl show status ( not so much info )
Specs should now appear in the command prompt box below.

Fingers crossed TP Link will turn up trumps and add these stats for us , the more people ask the more likely ,

feel free to copy/paste the above requests and email it to TP link support .

Just an update on the Stats issues ,

did a config file backup and bit the bullet , downloaded firmware from :

    http://uk.tp-link.com/download/Archer-VR900_V2.html#Firmware

All went fine , didn't even need to restore config file , all my settings stayed the same , couldn't really see any changes

so I assume it was bugs etc that did not really affect me.

Got a couple of errors on the upload and from looking at Telnet output these are from FEC / CRC errors on the upload ,

which are error correction but ones that have been corrected so not a major worry and it seems only a couple extra every

hour , during mild usage .It seems that the Upload errors are from the " ATUCCRCErrors=3 " when viewing Statposter results.

Here are my results , seem like quite a good line ( just had BT put me a new dropline and MK4 Master box in aswell )

Thumbs up Is TP Link active on this forum ?

    Hi All ,

As can be seen from the above posts many of the important line statistics are missing or simply listed as 0 ,

even when using TP Links version of Telnet or Statposter !!

Unfortunately via GUI , ONLY the upstream line stats are shown ,

downstream errors are always 0 ( so not working either ) , so 1 singular line

stat out of 20 or 30 is shown , why is this so poor for a VR range router ?

What a let down from TP Link , it seems like ALL the VR range of routers has this issue , why has nobody

thought to fix this yet , I don't need full access via Telnet , I just want to see my line stats in the GUI ,

is this too much to ask for ?

Netgear / DLink / Asus / Billion even Belkin allow the viewing of these via GUI so why oh why have you not ?

TP Link you are letting your customers down on this one , after all some stats ARE available

using StatPoster and TP Link Telnet but NOT all , this should be easy to add to a firmware update ,

so that the GUI shows the important values .

All this situation does in my case is stand behind my ISP's argument that 3rd party routers cannot

do what an ISP supplied router can , and therefore to leave the ISP router in place and not use a 3rd party one,

this can't be good for TP Link sales !!!

Does TP Link actively monitor or actually reply to any of the forum posts ?

Is there a TP Link rep on here that is active ?

    Hi Kevin,

Yes I know this is the TP Link forum , but as it is officially the " TP Link Forum " one would expect that TP Link would at least be involved in some way .

After all most other forums that carry the manufacturers name like this have some sort of involvement in their own branded forum ,

even if it is only a moderator that forwards the info to the correct department of TP Link .

Another reason is I just got this reply back from main TP Link support ( Not UK support )

    Hi Dave,
Thank you very much for your email requesting information about our product.

We confirm it with our R & D , they told us the reason.
Since our chip provider doesn't provide related documents, we cannot make a firmware which show SHOWTIME / FASTPATH / INTERLEAVED or anything like FEC or CRC errors on the page.

We are very sorry about it. Hope you understand.

    Have a nice day!

This is utter rubbish as Broadcom DO supply this information , it is TP Link that for some reason blocks us being able to view it .

As can be seen from the screen shots above SOME info is available if you go looking , but the TP Link GUI or TP Link " Branded " Telnet ,

( as it is NOT true Telnet ) simply ignores / blocks this info.

And YES , I have emailed them back , with proof that Broadcom DOES supply all the info for their xDSL chipsets as other manufacturers

use them and allow viewing of Line Statistics and pointed out a link to this whole post in their forum .

I hope that other VR users read this and email TP Link with the same questions and those about to buy don't fall into the same trap as me and waste a lot of

money buying equipment that falls short of the Quality / Support we should expect to be getting from a 200 modem / router .

My experience of TP Link in the past has been fantastic , I do so hope that their after sales has not fallen to the wayside like many other manufacturers.

Please please TP Link step up to the plate and fix these silly issues , we shouldn't be having to beg for this .

I hope my choice of the VR900 versus the Netgear D7000 was not a bad mistake .

Red face TP Link response from Technical finally

    Hi all ,

Finally I have a response from TP Link that is at least acknowledging the problems with the VR range and hopefully it

sounds like they may be trying to have a go at resolving some of them .

Here is my latest response from TP Link Technical which gives me some hope :

    Dear Dave,

Yes,I read your post on the forum.
    Sorry for the late reply.

I am contacting with our engineer about make a firmware to show more DSL line status.
But our engineers don't have time recently as they are developing new products and fix known issues.
So the firmware will not release shortly.

Is there some issues with your DSL line,unstable/disconnections?
We can try change some settings and check if there's improvement.

    Best Regards

All we can do now is hope they live up to their previously fantastic track record and bring out a firmware update to

show us some of the line statistics that we need , after all isn't the VR range one of their " Newest line " of routers ?

I have issue the same problem all the stats of my dsl line are encrypted. Its not possible to pay for one of the best modems-routers and you can't see the stats of your line. I can't se how many hours my line is on i can't see even if its fastpath or interleave. Please fix this as fast as you can. I have ac1900 modem router.
