    thanks Paul. I have no software firewalls installed I use the one on my router. I use AVG and Malwarebytes to keep the nasties away.

    Hey,

    Actually you have not noticed tha driver version of MTK. Windows10 has built in MTK driver for its chipset. The driver version is 5.1.16.0. But it didn't support 5GHz.Just download the old driver 5.1.12.0(for all MTK chip) and install it manually in device manager. Don't use the setup to install.

    The mediatek drivers install more recent drivers 5.1.25.0 as of 28 10 2015. The archer files are dated March 2014

    The new version of win10 - 14393.10 installs drivers for 2.4 and 5 ghz for this adapter. I did a clean install of it and it works fine now. I no longer need the mediatek drivers for the 5 ghz connection to appear. 1151 still doesnt install the right driver

    I tried installing the Mediatek driver and it broke everything

    Well if youre using Windows 10 creators update it'll install drivers that work now
