Lightbulb Internet keeps disconnecting in TD-8817 Modem

    Region : India

    Model : TD-8817

    Hardware Version : V6

    Firmware Version : 3.11.2.175_TC3086 HwVer:T14.F7_6.0

    ISP : Bharti Airtel Limited

    Region : India

    Model : TD-8817

    Hardware Version : V6

    Firmware Version :

    ISP : Bharti Airtel Limited

I have replaced my old Modem (Digisol DG1000) with Tp-link TD-8817 Modem and I have observed that the internet connection drops frequently (atleast once in an hour) while the DSL and Internet indicator lights keep glowing. I am also using Netgear JWNR2000v2 Wireless Router. However I face the problem both in my wireline and wireless connection. If I go back to my old Digisol Modem, connection drop ceases. Need to know what is wrong with my TP-LINK TD-8817 Modem. Is there any additional tweak or setting to resolve the issue?

Following are the details of the DSL connection:
    Downstream Upstream
    SNR Margin:6.0 7.0 db
    Line Attenuation:9.9 7.3 db
    Data Rate:20477 1018 kbps
    Max Rate:22004 1040 kbps
    POWER:14.1 11.3 dbm
    cRC:2 0

You dial up on the Modem, right? If you are using the PPPoE connection type provided by your ISP, you can try to make the modem work in bridge, and then put the usr &psw on your wireless router.

Thanks for your reply Ivy. I am using this Modem as a PPPoE connection which is default set by ISP. I think PPPoE mode is more secured and I can actively use the firewall. Also I have multiple PCs connected. So I haven't tried the Bridge mode connection. This can be a good work-around though. Thanks for your suggestion. But I wonder what actually the root cause is which is creating problem in my PPPoE connection and making the internet connection to drop every now and then. Btw, my main suspect is the firewall settings & DNS. Lets see, I have disabled the firewall now and using Auto discovered DNS mode. Any other suggestions are welcome to make the PPPoE connection to work without any problem.

Ivy, I have just set my modem as a bridge and configured the PPPoE connection on my Router. Hope this will avoid double NAT. Let's see if it resolves the issue. Only thing now is that I am not able to wirelessly connect to my modem. Also, the internet LED which shows the status in Modem is OFF now. So basically it is difficult to know if PPPoE is up or down.

when the modem works at bridge mode, the Internet light will NOT come up. To find out the root cause of your disconnection issue, you may reduce the clients connected to this modem and check whether it is overloaded or not. You may check the status of the LED lights of the modem, the WAN IP address, the data rate (upstream & downstream) when you set up the PPPoE on the modem and the Internet drops.

I have configured the modem in bridged mode and my router configured to set up PPPoE connection but this didn't solve the problem yet. The internet still drops out for about 30 secs intermittently. My problem is very similar to that discussed in http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1919142

Maybe you can have a try to set the ADSL mode as ADSL, rather than ADSL+ or auto, and set the ADSL type as Annex a/i/j/l/m.

Hi, I have fallen back to my old Digisol Modem and also configured new D-LINK modem. Both are working flawlessly. Only issue I see with the Tp_LINK one. I guess, I have received a faulty device.
